Useful information for commercial fruit grower.

Wayne County IPM Weekly fruit crop report -8/25/2008

  • Apples - Codling moths are still in flight with some fruit stings being found, therefore a spray schedule is recommended for control.    European red mites are starting to increase to near threshold numbers.  Apple maggot traps have been empty.  Fruit problems showing up include blister spot, cork spot, black rot and black pox.

  • Peaches - Two spotted spider mites and European red mites are being found at light to moderate levels.

  • Grapes - Japanese beetles are still damaging leaves and  grape berry moths are still in flight.  Anthracnose is being found on several varieties of grapes.  Symptoms include slightly sunken black lesions on berries and characteristic lesions on the vines.  Growers with this disease need to use sanitation to prevent overwintering as well as the use of dormant lime sulphur sprays next spring to prevent problems next year.
