Program Responsibilities:
Work with dairy producers, dairy industry consultants and Extension Educators to improve the profitability of Wayne County’s dairy farms through teaching, research, developing and conducting workshops and classes, writing and individual on-farm consultations.
Tools to help dairymen and consultants evaluate dairy businesses include: “Dairy Excel’s 15 Measures of Dairy Farm Competitiveness”. These methods and text allow managers to evaluate the financial and productive competitiveness of dairy farms of any size with basic financial and production information.
“Simple and Useful: Figuring and Using Your Cost of Production” worksheets help dairy farmers begin calculating their actual costs of producing milk to use in business evaluation and decision-making.
Mrs. Shoemaker and her husband own and operate a 200 cow dairy in Mahoning County (Northeast Ohio) where their two sons, ages 14 and 17, are occasionally helpful.
