All dairy producers are welcome to attend Friday, December 6, 2019, 10:00a.m.- 3:00p.m. to be held in the commissioners meeting room in the Wayne county administration building, 428 W. Liberty St. Wooster, OH 44691. Cost is $10 to attend with lunch included.

This workshop will include educational sessions along with several hands-on demonstrations. Ben Enger (PhD, Assistant Professor Dept of Animal Sciences: Mastitis and Mammary Physiology) and Luciana Da Costa (DVM, MSc, PhD, Dairy Extension Veterinarian: Mastitis and Milk Quality) will be presenting the material. Sessions will include an overview of mastitis and the pathogens and environmental conditions that contribute to SCC in milk, how to better understand and utilize a DHI or other milk sample report, proper cattle handling to reduce stress before and during milking, optimal milking preparation procedures, and dry off procedures to minimize the likelihood of mastitis infections.

A panel discussion with local dairy processors is also being planned. Producers will have the opportunity to submit questions regarding milk quality standards within the industry prior to the event.

Attendees are also encouraged to submit past DHI reports for educational purposes (black out names) and to bring current milk reports as a guide during the sessions. Milk samples may also be submitted for testing. Contact the Wayne County Extension office for details on submissions.
