The 2015 Ohio Sheep Day will be held on Saturday, July 11 in Southwestern Ohio. This year's host is Schoolhouse Shropshires, located at 961 Hoop Road outside of Xenia. Although it is a bit of a drive from the Wayne County area, I don't think anyone with an interest in sheep will be disappointed if they make the effort to attend. There are some great program topics planned. Those topics include:
- Approved Pasture Renovation Practices
- Approved Hay Crop Establishment Practices
- Approved EQIP Practices for Sheep Farms
- Basic Sheep Management Practices for New and Beginning Shepherds
- Lambing Barn Arrangements
- Selection of Sheep Equipment
- Manure Spreader Calibration for Proper Nutrient Distribution
- Livestock Mortality Composting Certification
- Predator Control Technology
- Sheep Farm Euthanasia Standards
Pre-registration is not required. The cost for the entire day including morning refreshments, a noon meal and the day’s materials is just $15 for Ohio Sheep Improvement Association members and $25 for non-members. Contact the Wayne County Extension office at 330-264-8722 for more information.
