The Wayne-Ashland County Dairy Service Unit (DSU) offers scholarships and an Outstanding Dairy Youth award to students in Wayne and Ashland counties.  Scholarships are awarded to students going on to post-high school education in the field of agriculture, with a special interest in the dairy industry.  Scholarships typically range from $500 to $1000.  Applicants for the scholarship must be a resident of Wayne or Ashland County at the time of application, have graduated from an accredited high school program or be in their senior year, and have an agricultural background with interest towards continuing in agriculture.  Special consideration is given to those applicants with a dairy background, involvement in a 4-H or FFA dairy project or having employment in a dairy-based business.  First-time recipients are given preference when applications are reviewed.

Candidates for the Outstanding Dairy Youth award are nominated by a FFA or 4-H advisor who has some knowledge of the individual and their work with a dairy project and/or contribution to the dairy industry that is worthy of recognition and the accompanying $250 award.

Applications for scholarships as well as the Outstanding Dairy Youth award are due in to the Wayne County Extension office by February 15, 2019.  Scholarships and the outstanding youth award will be presented at the Wayne/Ashland Dairy Service Unit annual meeting on the evening of March 21 at the Buckeye Agriculture Museum.  The scholarship application form as well as the nomination form for the Outstanding Dairy Youth are available on-line at go.osu.edu/DSUscholarship2019, and from the Wayne County Extension office.  For more information, contact the Wayne County Extension office at 330-264-8722.
