The Wayne County Fair, September 11th - 16th, is just around the corner and Ohio State University Extension is once again presenting free programs and demonstrations for your enjoyment in the Grange Rotunda building. Our programs are offered Monday through Thursday of the fair, and we are excited to share all that we have planned this year!
Monday, September 13th
10:30 a.m. Blender Bike with Sara Meeks from Ohio State University Extension. The blender bike is back, and we are making fresh salsa this year! Stop by to help us blend some yummy salsa recipes.
11:30 a.m. Sheep Shearing 101 with Gregg Fogle and Brady Campbell from Ohio State University. With sheep populations on the rise, and the number of shearers decreasing, learn this valuable skill to take care of your flock.
2:00 p.m. Homemade Bath Products with Kate Shumaker from Ohio State University Extension. Learn how to make your own homemade bath products like sugar scrubs and bath fizzies. Try it out for yourself in this interactive demonstration – while supplies last!
Tuesday, September 14th
10:30 a.m. Meet the Pollinators (And Learn How to Help Them) with Denise Ellsworth from Ohio State University. Who are the pollinators in our Ohio backyards and why are they important? Attend to learn about bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, as well as simple steps we can all take to help conserve these essential creatures.
11:30 a.m. Homemade Cleaning Products with Emily Marrison from Ohio State University Extension. Many basic cleaners can be made safely at home. Find out how to create your own cleaning products in this session.
12:30 p.m. Cow and Goat Milk Cheesemaking with Haley Zynda from Ohio State University Extension. Learn to make fresh cheese for your table, and for an extra twist, learn some great mix-ins for extra flavor!
2:00 p.m. Tracing Your Family’s History with Deborah Kitko from Wayne County Public Library. Attend this session to learn the basics on how to begin researching your family.
Wednesday, September 15th
10:30 a.m. Programs, Services and Volunteer Opportunities for Older Adults: Where to Get Help and Give Help with Francine Chuchanis from Direction Home Akron Canton Area Agency on Aging. Attendees will learn what programs and services are available to them and their loved ones, what educational opportunities are available, and how they can give back to their community through volunteering.
11:30 a.m. Senior Scams with Danielle Murphy from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Protection. Older adults (age 60 and up) are particularly vulnerable to fraud and scams; however, many incidents likely go unreported. Learn about the latest scams targeting our senior population and find out how to protect yourself and your loved ones. *This event is not sponsored by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. 1:00 p.m. Quilt Show and Tell with the Tree City Quilt Guild. Attend to see beautiful quilts by the Tree City Quilt Guild and learn about techniques and new methods.
2:00 p.m. Fall Electric Multicooker Recipes with Sara Meeks from Ohio State University Extension. Have an electric pressure cooker you plan to use this fall? Attend this session for new recipes and learn how to make a no-bake sweet potato casserole!
Thursday, September 16th
11:30 a.m. Plant Health Management in Home Gardens with Frank Becker from Ohio State University Extension. In this session Frank will cover disease and insect management as well as nutrient and moisture management for your home garden.
12:30 p.m. “Baking” in a Slow Cooker with Sara Meeks from Ohio State University Extension. Looking to use your slow cooker this fall? Attend this session for cozy slow cooker recipes and learn how to “bake” in your slow cooker!
2:00 p.m. AAA Recommended Road Trips with Jeremy Sigler from AAA. Wanting to get out and travel again? Learn about road trips close to home!
