Spring is in the air, which can only mean 4-H camping season is on the horizon and preparations are underway. Dates have been set, and camp counselor training has begun for Cloverbud Day Camp and Junior Camp. Registration opened May 1.

Counselors for each camp go through comprehensive training, over multiple meetings, in the months prior to the camps.

The counselors, with guidance from 4-H staff and volunteers, are charged with choosing the theme and planning, and carrying out the activities for respective camps. It is great to see their creative minds work and the collaboration efforts with all involved.

Cloverbud Day Camp will take place 11 a.m.-noon June 3-5 at Fisher Auditorium on The Ohio State University Wooster campus. We would like to introduce this year’s theme, Safari Adventure. Registration is open until May 24.

Eligibility for Cloverbud participation begins when a child is age 5 and enrolled in kindergarten and continues until they are eligible for project membership. Membership requires enrollment in an authorized Ohio 4-H club or group under the direction of an OSU Extension professional or an approved adult volunteer.

Campers will experience games, snacks, discovery activities, crafts and more related to this year’s theme. Snacks and refreshments will be provided each day prepared by the counselors, 4-H adult volunteers and 4-H staff. The last day of camp will wrap up with water games.

We suggest campers take a towel and perhaps a change of clothes so they will be comfortable for the duration of the last day.

Junior Camp at Camp Ohio in Louisville with Rodeo theme

4-H Junior Camp will take place June 30-July 3 at Camp Ohio in Louisville. The camp theme is Rodeo. The camp is open to campers who are enrolled 4-H members, ages 8-13. Registration is open until June 1. Parents/families will be responsible for transportation of campers to Camp Ohio on June 30 then pick them up July 3.

Campers will bunk in cabins for the week with their counselors. A packing list will be available closer to the date. Camp is a great experience for the youth as they get to be involved in games, crafts, campfire, dances, outdoor adventures and much more.

Please visit our Facebook page and website for more information. We encourage families to subscribe to our New & Notes that is sent out weekly to keep up with all the happenings of 4-H in Wayne County.

Please consider enrolling your 4-H member and/or Cloverbud in one of our camps this year. They will make memories while forming new friendships that will last a lifetime.
