Wayne County 4-H’ers showed off their talents, skills and creativity recently at the Ohio State Fair and local judging events.
Five project members won awards in State Fair competition. Ruth Steiner was the class winner for Let’s Bake Quick Breads, earning her a clock trophy. Winners of the Gingher Shears for top sewing construction awards were Natalie Shold, junior, and Lucy Acker, senior.
Pat LeFever, longtime donor of the Gingher Shears, was remembered during the Style Revue with a memorial tribute by Building 10 Committee member and Junior Fair Secretary Marcia Brueck. “Pat had a passion for sewing and the knowledge and talent to sew just about anything – from the simplest elastic-waist skirt to the most complex wedding gown,” Brueck said. LeFever was a teacher and mentor to others – youth and adults over the years. She donated the shears for many years,” Brueck said, “because of her desire to instill the love of sewing in youth.”
Among special State Fair awards presented, Shold was nominated to apply for the Rising Star Award and Acker, the Master Clothing Educator of Ohio Award for outstanding achievement in 4-H clothing.
