Each year the Extension 4-H Committee presents an award to an individual, group, or business who has made great contributions of his/her time and talent to the 4-H program.
We welcome any nominations you have for the Meritorious Service Award. Please complete and submit to the Extension Office the brief nomination form which can be found on the Extension Office website at go.osu.edu/MSA15. Nominations are due October 1st.

Nominate outstanding 4-H project members (or yourself) for these awards to be presented at the fall banquet. The form is available on the county 4-H website at go.osu.edu/CAM15. This form is due to the Extension Office by October 1st.

Nominate your older outstanding members (17-18) for this award. Nomination forms are available on the county 4-H website go.osu.edu/En4H. Please turn them in to the Extension office by 4:30 PM on September 1st.

Everyone will have the opportunity to pick up a nomination form for persons to serve on the Beef, Dairy, Horse, Sheep, Swine, Goat, Rabbit/Poultry, Building 10 and Dog committees. Nomination forms may be picked up at the Junior Fair office or downloaded from the Extension web site at go.osu.edu/4HAC. Forms must be returned to the Extension office by September 25th. These nomination forms must be completed or at least signed by the person being nominated.

Please encourage folks in your community to donate blood during the fair. The bloodmobile will be located on the south side of the Coliseum:

Wayne County Rural Youth would like to invite all 4-H members, their families, and friends to our next "Square and Line Dance" on Saturday, August 8 from 8-11 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Barry Jolliff will be the caller. No experience is necessary; we will provide free square dance lessons at 7:30. Admission is $4/person and refreshments will be served. The public is invited and all ages are welcome. Come join the fun!"

We would like to add your club’s name to the list below who have supported the Bike’s for Kids At Christmas project. Please let us know soon so we can have your club name included on the donation list in the booth at the fair. The booth promoting this project will be in the junior fair building and will include information about the project and a list of participating 4-H clubs.

My favorite time of day is having my first cup of coffee on the porch. The sights and sounds of morning are refreshing as I savor a few minutes of meditation for me. Each year The Ohio Department of Agriculture sponsors the collection of unwanted agricultural pesticides in a few locations across the state. Last year Wayne County was a host location so it will be awhile before the collection is back here. This year there are two collection points within a couple of hours drive, but if you have a quantity of chemicals to dispose of, the drive may be worth it. The collection is only for farm-related chemicals so household or non-farm pesticides will not be accepted. The 2015 dates and locations are:

A trend that continues to grow is local foods. As most consumers find themselves further removed from agriculture there is interest in learning more about how food is produced and where your food comes from. Ohio Local Foods week is August 9-15. Ohio State University Extension has a local foods program effort that is identifying and providing programming on issues related to food production, marketing, human nutrition, economic development, and others.
