The host for the 2019 Dairy Twilight Tour is Harmony Farms LLC located at 5294 Kidron Road in Kidron.  The tour is a program of the Wayne-Ashland Dairy Service Unit and will be held the evening of July 9th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The tour is free of charge and anyone with an interest in the dairy industry and dairy farming is invited to attend.  Thanks to the generous support of event sponsors, a BBQ chicken and pork meal with side dishes is provided to all attendees at no charge.  Of course, since it is a dairy tour, plenty of milk, cheese and soft-serve ice cream is available.  Make sure to visit with the sponsors who will feature displays and exhibits representing all aspects of the dairy industry.

Harmony Farms and the Neuenschwander family, has been in operation since the late 1860’s and today is a multi-generational dairy farm, with three generations currently active in the farming operation.  Harmony Farms currently has a milking herd of about 300 head and also runs a custom forage harvesting business.  Some of the featured aspects of the farm that tour attendees will learn more about include an innovative heat abatement system installed in 2016 that keeps cows cool and comfortable during the summer months, so that milk production does not suffer.  A sand lane manure management system keeps the cows clean and allows sand bedding to be recycled as bedding material.  Currently the farm is participating in an Ohio State University energy demand monitoring project to increase energy use efficiency.  Some preliminary results will be available to tour attendees.  An interview with the Neuenschwander family highlighting their farming operation and management will take place at 8:00 pm the evening of the tour.

Parking for the Dairy Twilight Tour will be at the Kidron Livestock Auction, 4885 Kidron Rd, (follow the signs for parking) with shuttles provided to and from the farm.  A limited number of handicapped parking spaces are available adjacent to the farm.  We look forward to seeing you at the 2019 Dairy Twilight Tour hosted by Harmony Farms LLC.
